The Faith In Action Care Program provides services to older adults age 60 and over in the greater Winston-Salem area. Services are provided by trained volunteers of all ages from area congregations, organizations, and the greater community.
Shepherd’s Center volunteers visit homebound older adults providing support for those who are isolated and respite care for caregivers who need a break.
What Services are Provided?
- Home Visitation
- Respite Care for Family Caregivers
- Minor Home Repairs
- Medical Transportation
- Grocery Shopping (2 times per month)
There are no charges for any of these services, except for home repair materials.
Who Calls to Request Services?
- Older adults themselves
- Families, friends or neighbors
- Congregations, community groups and others from the community
- Home health agencies, social service agencies, hospitals or residential facilities
Who are the Volunteers?
- Neighbors helping neighbors through their congregations and community groups
- People with a genuine concern for older adults
- Young and older adults who can give non-medical support to homebound individuals
- Training is provided for both new and experienced volunteers
